Explaining diagnosis, procedures and findings in lay terms the patient understands.

Strategies:

  • Translate every medical term into plain words.
  • Check understanding by asking the patient to repeat back.

Aufklärung (Informed Consent)

Informing the patient about treatment, risks and alternatives and obtaining consent.

Strategies:

  • Name benefits, risks and alternatives clearly.
  • Give space for questions before consent.
